Raising Mentally Strong Kids

Among “The Self-Driven Child: The Science and Sense of Giving Your Kids More Control Over Their Lives” this is another book that I would say is required reading for parents who really care about their kids’ education without losing their minds.

This book reinforces the idea of parents becoming consultants rather than problem solvers. Kids need to go through the appropriate difficulties at their age to grow and feel confident, and feel they’re supported by their parents when they need them.

An important aspect for them to feel they can go to their parents for help is that you need to bond with them. They need to feel they’re safe with you, that you’re not going to judge them or give unsolicited opinions. These are only some of the good reminders I got from the book, but I think I’ll need to keep it close by for frequent refreshers, as this wasn’t necessarily the way I was educated, and it’s hard to move away from that.
